I have a Masters degree in teaching ESL (as well as a Masters in city planning from Harvard) and also work as a speaking rater for TOEFL iBT. I have taught university-level ESL for a number of years, with almost a thousand students of all nationalities, from beginners to advanced.
I would describe myself as relaxed, encouraging, and sympathetic. I home-schooled my own three children from kindergarten through high school and I believe a stress-free, happy, and enjoyable learning environment keeps students motivated and enthusiastic.
I specialize in teaching speaking and writing for English language tests. I focus on the specific skills you need to get good scores and I give you plenty of practice during each class session.
My availability is limited because of my TOEFL scoring job and other tutoring jobs. If you would like to schedule a lesson when I am not available, message me ... I may be able to work you in!
Because my teaching hours are limited, PLEASE schedule your lessons ON THE HOUR (meaning, for example, at 9:00, not 9:30). Otherwise I will ask you to reschedule a half-hour earlier or later.
As a part-time instructor, I have taught from three to five Intensive English classes per 8-week term (a total of 59 classes to date). Students have ranged from pre-literacy to advanced levels and subjects have included writing, reading, grammar, and listening/speaking. I also headed the program’s administration of TOEFL ITP tests to 250-300 students. I developed standardized procedures for administering the test and ensuring security and accurate scoring of the tests and was responsible for staffing test rooms.
