Hello, English language learners! My name is John, and I'm from sunny southern California in the United States, where I have been teaching English as a foreign language to students from all over the world. I did my undergraduate work at UC Berkeley, majoring in Psychology; and later adding a 2nd major in English Literature before earning a Teaching Credential in English as a Second Language in June, 2002. For the past 19 years I've been helping my students reach their educational goals, providing customized lessons for ESL, TOEFL and IELTS-exam preparation, Business English, writing, and "everyday" conversational English with a focus on clear pronunciation and situation-specific vocabulary.
When the learning process is enjoyable, students learn more quickly, so I'm always trying to use my creativity, patience, and positive energy to make lessons that are not only informative and useful--but also fun! My teaching style also depends on what my students need; for example, as soon as I find out your strong points, I will use that knowledge to guide my instruction on the key aspects of the language: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
So that is a little bit about me. The next part is about you: Where are you from? What makes you happy? What confuses you about English? I'd like to know your answers to these questions--and many others--so please feel free to send me a message, and we'll schedule a lesson.
