My name is Andrea, and I come from sunny Durban in South Africa.
I have a three year bachelor’s degree in Theology, and I am currently completing my diploma in business administration. I have over ten years of experience in teaching children between the ages of 5 and 13 in our local church.
I have also had the pleasure of teaching children between the ages of 14 and 18 at a high school in our area.
I recently had the opportunity of teaching Afrikaans (this is one of our native languages in South Africa)
to a group of my colleges in my Business Administration class. This was fun and challenging as I had to change roles from fellow student to teacher.
Having worked with so many different age groups has allowed me to learn how to teach in different ways in order to grasp the attention of my audience and keep them interested in the lesson.
I like to make my lessons fun, interactive and age appropriate.
My personal belief about learning languages is that if you want to learn a language you need to practice regularly. Languages are best learnt through conversations and through reading. The first thing you need to learn is vocabulary and pronunciation. From there you can learn how to form sentences and then move on to the proper use of tenses. These are the steps that I view as being vital to learning any language.
For my students, I will assess your level as an English speaker and cater our lessons for your specific language learning needs. We will spend time in learning new words and building conversational English, and when needed I will provide you with extra work that you can do on your own until we meet for our next lesson
