After 20 years...

Hi everyone,
I have been getting students besides Verbling lately, and am enjoying teaching Nihongo!
Mostly I get students in their upper beginner level to N2 level and I’m very happy that they are really enthusiastic about learning and do not get sidetracked and that I can spend a quality learning session with each of them. Also most ask me to give them homework. I usually create homework assignments myself to give it a little spice. Anyways, please feel free to send me a message for a trial lesson if you’re interested!

A long time ago, I was learning the piano.
My mother graduated from a renowned music collage and was teaching piano at home. Naturally, she wanted me to learn piano.
But, I knew I wasn’t good at it, and quit after high school.

Since then, somewhere in my mind, I’ve been thinking I wanted to play the piano just for fun, but I was hesitant to get a electric piano, much less a real piano because they’re not cheap and will take up space etc…
However, about a month ago I found out that a good neighbor friend of mine had a CASIO electric keyboard!
It was her late husband’s and she had not played the piano.
But she brought it out of her storage because she thought she may want to try it for fun.

She has gone to Washington the other day for a month or more and in the meantime, I am her cat-sitter.
So I started to practice the piano with her e-keyboard!!
I made myself an assignment to be able to play 2 easiest Etudes by Chopin smoothly by the time she gets back, and practicing about 2 hours a day.
Just as expected, my hand cramps a little when play finger practice tunes fast, but surprisingly my fingers do move quite ok than expected.
It’s my first time to even touch an e-keyboard, and it’s a little different touch from the real piano, but I think I can get back my level to the point where I left off about 20years ago.
I play on my pace, but since I made myself a goal to reach, I really enjoy the practice.

I guess your Japanese practice or improvement is not something that you are made to do or achieve by someone else, so it’s fun, right? Same thing!

Let’s have fun and Enjoy Nihongo!

Hi Everyone! My name is YUKIKO. I am from Kanagawa-ken of Japan and live in Hawai'i. FIRST OF ALL, I'd like to say, thank you for reading my profile and I hope all of you are OK during this COVID pandemic. PLEASE STAY SAFE. Let me tell you a little about myself. I have a certificate of (420 hours mandated) Advanced Skills for Japanese Teaching ;) From age 12-16 I lived in Australia. Because of this experience, I started to have great interest in different culture and getting to know people from various countries at young age. When I was in college, I helped exchange students from Thailand with learning Japanese for about a few months. I had another occasion to attend a group consisting of about 20 people from Germany appointed by a non-profit intercultural exchange organization to visit various cultural businesses in 4 cities in Japan as an interpreter. From then on, I have taught Japanese to people in/from various countries like England, US, Philippines etc. I also know how hard it is to learn a different language because I learned it hard way in Australia. Japanese is a very unique language and maybe tough to understand as you go on, but I'M HERE TO HELP YOU! Let's have a fun learning time! Teaching style:I have Genki for new beginners and some other textbooks for intermediate learners if you like to study on textbooks. If you have any materials or topics you wish to study on or talk about, we can certainly solve problems you have together. Most of the time, I will use both textbooks and the materials that I customize for each student to make each lesson more active and fun. If you are intermediate and above and like to focus on conversation, that is fine too. I also give students homework which I make on my own. Materials can be articles picked from websites, books, magazines etc and sentences or conversation practice that I make, and quizzes. We'll review what you have learned at the next lesson. Please feel free to contact me for TRIAL lesson or for any question! My hobbies are Swimming, Power Walking, SUP(Stand-up Paddiline), Gym training, Netflix, Photograph(taking pictures), playing with/working on computer etc. [ Cancellation and/or Rescheduling ] *Verbling regulation: Students must send a rescheduling/cancellation notice before 12 hours prior to the next lesson you have booked as stated in the Verbling regulation. To "Reschedule" your lesson, please do so with at least 12 hours advance notice. If the class is scheduled to start in less than 12 hours, you will not be able to "Reschedule", but you will be able to "Cancel" the class and receive a 50% refund. You must write something in the message box explaining to your teacher why you are rescheduling. [ No-show ] Your lesson will be cancelled and there will be no refund if you do not show after 10 minutes of the lesson start time.
