思い出のサン・フランシスコ

ALOHA, everyone! こんにちは。
さて、先日(せんじつ)、サン・フランシスコにいる生徒(せいと)さんとのレッスンがありました。
この生徒さんのご主人(しゅじん)は、日本人です。彼女は日本語を話せるように(はなせるように)なりたいのですが、家(いえ)ではご主人とほとんど英語(えいご)しか話さないそうです。彼女はとても勉強熱心で、将来(しょうらい)は日本語の本を読みたいんだそうです。
Well, the other day, I had a lesson with one of my students who lives in San Francisco. Her husband is from Japan. She and her husband speak only in English at home although she wants to study Japanese, which makes it very hard for her Japanese to improve and she decided to take lessons with me. She is a very enthusiastic student, she says her ultimate goal is to be able to read Japanese books.

この日のレッスンでは、前の週(まえのしゅう)に出したDictationのHomeworkレビューをしました。その中で、「~といえば、・・・」という表現が出てきました。
これは、“Speaking of ~, (what comes up to mind)という意味で、JLPT N3レベルだそうです。
In that day’s lesson, we reviewed a dictation homework from previous week.
In the topic, there was a phrase, “~といえば(to ieba)、・・・” which means “speaking of ~” and would be JLPT N3 level.

私は「ところで、サン・フランシスコといえば・・・??」と彼女に聞いて、答えを待ちました。彼女は、しばらく考えてから、「ゴールデンゲート橋(ばし)」と言いました。
そうですね。ゴールデンゲートブリッジ、あの堂々とした橋は、サン・フランシスコの顔ですね。
I asked her “By the way, speaking of San Francisco… (what comes up to mind)?“and waited for her to respond.
After a few pause, she answered, “ゴールデンゲート(Golden Gate)…橋(ばし)”
True! Golden Gate Bridge, that magnificent look undoubtedly represents San Francisco, doesn’t it?

ちなみに、私の頭に思い浮かんだのは「クラム・チャウダー」でした。そう言ったら彼女に笑われました。
By the way, because it came up to my mind I said, “Clam Chowder” and she laughed.

I’m serious! I really enjoyed my clam chowder dinner I had at the pier area during my 2 day stay in Cisco.

Hi Everyone! My name is YUKIKO. I am from Kanagawa-ken of Japan and live in Hawai'i. FIRST OF ALL, I'd like to say, thank you for reading my profile and I hope all of you are OK during this COVID pandemic. PLEASE STAY SAFE. Let me tell you a little about myself. I have a certificate of (420 hours mandated) Advanced Skills for Japanese Teaching ;) From age 12-16 I lived in Australia. Because of this experience, I started to have great interest in different culture and getting to know people from various countries at young age. When I was in college, I helped exchange students from Thailand with learning Japanese for about a few months. I had another occasion to attend a group consisting of about 20 people from Germany appointed by a non-profit intercultural exchange organization to visit various cultural businesses in 4 cities in Japan as an interpreter. From then on, I have taught Japanese to people in/from various countries like England, US, Philippines etc. I also know how hard it is to learn a different language because I learned it hard way in Australia. Japanese is a very unique language and maybe tough to understand as you go on, but I'M HERE TO HELP YOU! Let's have a fun learning time! Teaching style:I have Genki for new beginners and some other textbooks for intermediate learners if you like to study on textbooks. If you have any materials or topics you wish to study on or talk about, we can certainly solve problems you have together. Most of the time, I will use both textbooks and the materials that I customize for each student to make each lesson more active and fun. If you are intermediate and above and like to focus on conversation, that is fine too. I also give students homework which I make on my own. Materials can be articles picked from websites, books, magazines etc and sentences or conversation practice that I make, and quizzes. We'll review what you have learned at the next lesson. Please feel free to contact me for TRIAL lesson or for any question! My hobbies are Swimming, Power Walking, SUP(Stand-up Paddiline), Gym training, Netflix, Photograph(taking pictures), playing with/working on computer etc. [ Cancellation and/or Rescheduling ] *Verbling regulation: Students must send a rescheduling/cancellation notice before 12 hours prior to the next lesson you have booked as stated in the Verbling regulation. To "Reschedule" your lesson, please do so with at least 12 hours advance notice. You must write something in the message box explaining to your teacher why you are rescheduling.
